Also known as a deep cleaning, gum disease treatment is performed when bone loss and large deposits of tartar are noted inside of your mouth during an examination. An instrument is used to determine how much bone loss a person has endured over his or her lifetime.
The procedure normally requires a person to be numb, and then goes on to remove plaque, calculus (tartar), and then polishing and smoothing of the exposed surfaces of the roots of your teeth.
The procedure involves multiple instruments that we will use to get this accomplished. Gum disease treatment normally requires two visits, but some of our patients have their entire mouth deep scaled and planed during one visit.
After the procedure is performed, you are brought back every three months for Maintenance therapy. During these appointments, your gums are evaluated again, and a cleaning is subsequently performed.
