Mini Implants in Houston, TX
There is a new dental rave going around the greater Houston area. It’s about mini implants, and how it’s helped countless numbers of our patients here at Best Dental. We take great joy in serving Houston citizens with great quality and affordable mini implant treatment.
What are mini Dental Implants?
They are the exact same as your traditional dental implants except they have a smaller diameter. They are also known as narrow dental implants, and they do wonders for patients who do not adequate width to place a traditional dental implant. And unlike your traditional dental implant, the surgical procedure is very minimally invasive. This means there won’t be any need to suturing after the mini dental implants are placed. Mini implants also are a single unit piece versus normal dental implants that come in two different piece (the implant, and the crown).
The diameter of mini implants can range anywhere from 1.5mm-3mm, and their length ranges from 10-18mm. The strength of these mini implants is normally determined by their length versus their diameter.
Are you a good candidate for Mini Implants?
This will be determined by our dental implant specialist Dr. Jasmine Naderi. A digital scan is taken of your mouth, and full complimentary examination is performed with Dr. Jasmine. Our team will come up with a custom treatment plan that is right for you, and then we can discuss any lingering questions you may have.
What is the procedure of getting Mini Dental Implants?
The great benefit of dental mini implants is there is no incisions involved as we typically see with your traditional dental implant procedures. The mini implants are inserted straight through the gums and into your bone tissue. The majority of our cases are usually performed with local anesthetic, but there are some of our patients that are wanting to be sedated for their procedure.
What are some benefits of Mini Implants?
There are numerous perks of mini implant treatment. The following are just a few of these benefits:
- Less invasive than your traditional dental implants
- Fewer long term complications as they are more narrow in diameter
- A great option if you are needing to restore an anterior tooth that is very small
- Can be used as overdentures to help make your denture more functional and stable.
What is the recovery time after getting mini dental implants?
The recovery time is much less than with dental implant treatment. Usually, swelling and discomfort are at a minimum after the procedure. You will still get an antibiotic and pain medication after your treatment with Dr. Jasmine, but many of our patients end up not finishing the pain medications. It’s always advisable to finish your antibiotic treatment to prevent bodily resistance. An antibacterial mouthrinse called Peridex may also be given to help accelerate the healing process.
Can Mini Implants Help Me Get More Secure Dentures?
Absolutely, and this is one of the main reasons why they were invented in the first place. With the placement of four mini dental implants you can have a denture that is firm and stable. And although mini dental implants do not have the longevity of regular dental implants, they are a great second option to help you chew with confidence again.
