Another common type of benign cyst that forms on the lip is called an irritation fibroma. It usually comes about when a person accidentally chews on his or her lip and continues aggravating the area over time. The fibroma is just extra tissue that can keep growing. Excision of the fibroma is usually recommended although these tend to be benign in nature. Fibromas tend to form on the tongue and cheeks as well. Many of these oral lesions may end up needing to be biopsied to make sure they are not harmful in nature.
