How long does a smile makeover take?
Smile makeovers can take 2-4 appointments depending on your specific case. if your case is straight forward, then only two appointments will be needed to complete your case. What makes a case simple or complex? This all depends on the way your mouth functions. If you have severe grinding habits, or if your teeth have severe interferences when your jaw moves, then a procedure called a occlusal equilibration may need to be performed prior to your smile makeover is started. This is because during this equilibration procedure, your teeth are slightly adjusted to make sure that your crowns or veneers do not break or fall off after the are placed inside your mouth. This is a crucial step, and its a step that a lot of dentists miss when treatment planning their patients.
What materials are used to make my smile makeover?
At Best Dental, we only use the highest grade Porcelain that is on the market. The assures us that your crowns or veneers will last for decades. Again, we have a lifetime warranty on all our products, so if you ever have a problem with any of your restorations, we will replace them for you free of charge. There are many different forms Porcelains on the market, and Dr. Jasmine will pick the best option that is right for you at your treatment planning appointment.
Will dental insurance help me with the cost of my smile makeover?
Dental insurance can certainly help you if your teeth are worn down or have cavities. In this case, your dental plan will certainly cover some of the costs. If you are looking for a purely cosmetic change, and nothing is wrong with your teeth, then chances are good that your dental insurance will not cover the costs of your smile makeover treatment.
How is a smile correction performed?
A smile correction, when done correctly, is completed in a series of steps:
- Initial diagnostic impressions are taken of your mouth including bite records to show your dentist how your teeth occlude with each other
- If necessary, an occlusal equilibration is performed to remove any imperfect tooth contacts that your may have.
- A diagnostic wax up model is then made to show the dentist and yourself how the shape of your smile makeover will look like.
- Once this is agreed upon, your dentist will prepare your teeth with either veneers or jacket crowns (cosmetic dental crowns).
- A final impression is taken of the prepared teeth and sent to a top-grade dental laboratory.
- An interim restoration is constructed to cover the prepared teeth, and to also show the dentist if those teeth feel comfortable to you.
- The restorations are sent back to your dentist where a try-in is performed.
- Once you and the dentist like the final result, a permanent dental cement us used to fix the veneers and crowns into place.
- The excess cement is then removed.
What happens if I also need a dental implant?
If your looking into getting a smile makeover, but also need a dental implant to cover up a missing tooth, your smile makeover may take longer to complete. Dental implants require a few months to integrate with your bone tissue which will delay the final desired results that you are looking for. Your final cost may also be higher if you are needing this additional work.
